What's Included

Our Service Guarantee covers any instrument that might benefit from regular maintenance due to normal wear and tear (not including the cost of "consumables" like strings, rosin, swabs, reeds, pads, etc.). Some instruments need little (if any) maintenance, especially in the first year (e.g., keyboards, digital pianos, electronic drums, amps, effects, pro-audio, hand percussion, and even acoustic drum kits). But other instruments like guitars and basses or brass and woodwinds, might benefit from minor adjustments in the first year.

What's Not Included

The Service Guarantee does not cover "elective surgery" (i.e., customizations that are not necessary for continued original functionality such as installing a pickup or swapping out existing pickup/hardware). Nor does it cover repair of damage due to misuse, neglect, accident, etc.

Examples of Regular Maintenance by Instrument Category

Fretted Instruments

Guitars, Basses, Ukuleles, Banjos, Mandolins

• Regular maintenance can include:
  • Applying new strings (restringing), which includes, where applicable, cleaning frets and fretboard, oiling fretboard, adjusting tuners, installing new strings, neck adjustment). Does not include the cost of strings.
  • Setup, which includes everything under Restringing above, PLUS action, intonation, and pickup height adjustments.

Woodwinds

Clarinet, Saxophone, Oboe, Flute

• Regular maintenance can include:
  • Key and/or mechanism adjustments
  • Cork replacement (most applicable on used instruments purchased at The Magic Flute)

Brass

Trumpet, Trombone, other horns

• Regular maintenance can include:
  • Ultrasonic cleaning and lubrication
  • Waterkey corks replacement

Orchestral Strings

Violin, Viola, Cello

• Regular maintenance can include:
  • Restringing (does not include cost of strings)
  • Bridge adjustment
  • Tailpiece adjustment
  • Peg doping
